Today I reread this and this in the morning, and then saw this in the afternoon. I’m going out for some fresh air now. I feel sort of icky.

Meeting Mr. Chow

Published on Wednesday, March 18th, 2009

Celebrity Encounters today in the hood:

While I was trying to take a photo of the jewels in the window at Martin Katz to send to the Out and About Section, I looked up as a very attractive Chinese woman was succumbing the the killer charm of The Critter, who was not too patiently waiting for his tricycle to “go”. They flirted across the sidewalk for a bit, and then she called to her companion to step out onto the sidewalk to witness the flirt that is my child. Turns out it was Mr. Chow, who I recognized immediately due to his signature eyeglasses. He was quite charming himself, and he wanted to know where The Critter found his hat. I told him Old Navy, which seemed to mean nothing to him. We all bid a cheery good day, and as I turned back to take the photo of the jewelry, a very attractive security guard told me “no pictures, please”. Oh well.

Then I turned back again to push the trike along, I see John Ventimiglia, best known as Artie Bucco from The Sopranos.

Both of these men were much hotter in person, go figure…

You get what you pay for…

I really think that if you changed the words “writer” and “writing” for “interior designer” and “interior design”, that I could’ve written this post by Audacious Ink. And the spa she refers to, no doubt, is the same spa that wanted interior design services for a pittance. I had almost forgotten about how icky the place was. We must talk, Ms. Ink.

And speaking of the rich…

This trailer for the film KIDS + MONEY by Lauren Greenfield is disturbing and provocative. Her work will be on exhibit at The Annenberg Space for Photography as well.

Thank goodness for the very rich…

An image from Lauren Greenfield's KIDS + MONEY

I got a postcard in the mail this week that made me think about so many wonderful things in Los Angeles that get taken for granted. It seems to me the au courant attitude toward the very rich has been outwardly hostile. In my work I sometimes hear negative comments like “must be nice” to have an enormous home in the Hills and other homes dotting the world’s hot spots with lots of staff and priceless antiques and windows draped by $500 per yard fabrics. Well, yes, it is, but don’t realize forget that a luxury lifestyle takes a LOT of work and skill management, help and that many people benefit from their living it.

But I totally digress – what I need to tell you is that the postcard announced to me that “The Lens Cap Comes Off” of The Annenberg Space for Photography on March 27th. A quick trip to the website proves that the Annenbergs have bestowed yet another amazing gift upon the public, and I for one am so glad that they are able to do so!

The new space opens March 27th, and admission is free. The Critter and I will be frequent visitors, as we tricycle frequently in that ‘hood too.

Farrow and Ball introduces sexy new pattern

Published on Thursday, March 5th, 2009

News via email today from Farrow and Ball – a new paper in their collection, called “Lotus Papers”. I always liked Farrow and Ball’s products, as in the colors and papers are always “correct”. Very conservative on the whole, but always striving to break ground within classical standards. A great example of this is “Lotus Papers” which I see is an “…artisanal lotus-flower design, which is drawn from 19th century French archives and influenced by the Arts & Crafts Movement…” I always love any new design that tips a hat to history. The techniques used to create these papers make each roll look as though it was handpainted.

Farrow and Ball is not a trade only vendor, so anyone can enjoy learning a little history lesson about wall color and paper as they do their own project.
