My Pal Jamie Lynne Grumet is on the Cover of TIME!

You may remember my story about Jamie Lynne of I Am Not the Babysitter. Since she originally wrote to me our families have become fast friends, and today her face (and her left breast) are ALL OVER the internet and television. Jamie is being interviewed about her views as an attachment parent, a parenting style followed by the fans of Dr. Bill Sears. She will be on the cover of the print edition of TIME magazine tomorrow and there’s already fallout – pro breast feeding older kids, anti breast feeding kids, all choices of parents are on the fire today. All I know is that she’s one of the sweetest smartest people I know, and she has exceptionally cool kids. Please pray for my sweet friend’s sanity as the world now knows her name.

Update: Jamie’s blog is currently down (for obvious reasons), but make sure to visit the foundation she created this year – The Faye Foundation.

I breast-fed my children before it was considered "cool" so, of course I'm an advocate. The length of time one chooses to do so is personal and no one has a right to tell anyone otherwise. My daughter not only breast-fed her boys, she even chose to have home births w/a mid-wife! Many women from other countries wouldn't bat an eye at Jamie's decision but for whatever reason, we, in America have preconceived ideas of what is acceptable. Jamie is a gutsy mom and I applaud her. Say hello to your mom. Hope you both have a wonderful Mother's Day!

Thanks so much for your comment, Martha! I miss my Mississippi friends! I wondered if any of mom's peers breast fed - I couldn't remember a single one. Thanks for your support of my sweet friend :)

I breast-fed my babies when it wasn't "cool" so, of course I am an advocate. It is a mother's right to decide what is best for her child and what others think doesn't matter. There are many countries where this is considered normal. Only in America would this be up for 'discussion" . I applaud Jamie for being gutsy and standing by her convictions regarding what is best for her and her children. No other opinion matters. No ones permission is necessary. My daughter not only breast-fed her boys but she had them at home w/a mid-wife. I supported her decision to do so. Say hello to your Mom & I hope you and you both have a great Mother's Day!

I am confident that Jamie will continue to raise her head gracefully high above the controversy. She's an amazing person!
I hope she does okay with what will certainly be a lot of attention, not all positive. Can't wait for our issue to arrive in the mail. I wish people would be up in arms about issues that need focusing (climate, war, poverty) and not worry so much if gay people are getting married or if moms are breastfeeding their kids longer. Our country can be so backwards, IMO. You are a good and supportive friend to her, and I know she will appreciate you so much when things get a little crazy.
One day women will stop defending stupid women, just not to day
I don't even know Jamie....but I hope she is okay. I thought the photos were amazing and the interviews afterwards left me even more impressed with her.
this is funny
